Here’s one we can’t wait to get our hands on: Steak Simplified, a combination handbook-cookbook-memoir by home-grown Abu Dhabi author Joan Tuaño Rumsey, launching on October 25th.

Joan and her family are the brains - and steak connoisseurs - behind the popular Filipino-owned butchery La Carne. An Abu Dhabi staple for the past 10 years, La Carne provides the goods, and as of next week, Joan will tell you just what to do with them.

With a focus on beef and lamb, the book’s opening chapters follow the meat from farm to plate, covering everything from the science of marbling to myoglobin and marinades. The second half dishes up the good stuff: over 25 recipes, a combination of classic Western dishes and vibrant flavours from Joan’s Filipino heritage. QR codes on each page seamlessly link to Joan’s cooking videos on YouTube, meaning you can cook along with her to whip up favourites like bistek tagalog, rainbow steak noodles and pistachio crusted lamb rack.

With feathers in her cap from Enderun College in the Philippines, Les Roches Hospitality School in Switzerland and also a culinary education by Michelin-star chef Alain Ducasse, Joan has refined her palate, honed her skills and is ready to take her readers along for a meaty adventure.

A recent exploration of beef landscapes in Australia and New Zealand was undertaken specifically for her debut book, and ties in perfectly with La Carne’s position as a premium butchery in the UAE and the Philippines, delivering only the finest grass fed Angus and Wagyu beef.

Pre-orders are available now on La Carne’s online stores (lacarne.ae and lacarne.ph), as well as Amazon US, UK, Spain, France and Germany.

Tickets to the book launch events (26th and 29th of October) are available at lacarne.online/launch
