Swiss Butter, where have you been all our lives?! This Lebanon-born chain is a fabulous addition to the Abu Dhabi dining scene - it ticks all the boxes and even ticks boxes we didn’t know needed ticking! And most importantly, it's one of Abu Dhabi's best steak restaurants.

It’s the simplest of concepts, there’s no menu to scan or peruse, just a board on the wall: they offer just three proteins: beef, chicken and salmon. These are served in a skillet with the special Swiss Butter sauce and boarded up with baguette doorstops (white or brown), a mountain of thin-cut French fries (or a giant baked potato)and a generous serving of salad greens. What makes Swiss Butter stand out? First, the AED87‍ price tag makes this one of the best value-for-money options in town and second, the protein skillet is unbelievably good. The secret to Swiss Butter’s success lies in the sauce which, we’re reliably informed, is made with 33 different herbs and spices and of course a fair amount of butter. As a result of this deliciousness, both the steak and the chicken were incredibly tender and the huge salmon fillet well-cooked and surprisingly light. I’d be quite happy to go back and eat only the meat! If you're looking for a 'steak deal near me' and you live on-island in Abu Dhabi, Swiss Butter is a great option!

Try both main desserts on offer, though these aren't included in the offer: the pain perdu and the molten chocolate, both served in hot skillets. The pain perdu (AED42) is a meal in itself. It’s light, with a gorgeous caramel sauce and ice-cream melting everywhere … it’s hard to stop eating it. The molten chocolate is a rich self-saucing dessert - the people at the table next to us cleaned theirs up and debated ordering a second helping!

Swiss Butter is licensed, serving bottles of wine and house wine by the carafe (AED39/73), filled from the coolest barrel, as well as draught and bottled beer, hot drinks and soft beverages. So Swiss Butter also makes for a cheap night out with drinks in Abu Dhabi!
