This is brave of us, don't you think?!

... but we do fancy ourselves some of the most prolific pizza eaters in the city, and team Best Bites regularly debates the top contenders for a sit-down pizza experience. WE surveyed our community and here are our top picks for the best pizza in Abu Dhabi.

Didn't find your favourite? Let us know who you think deserves a top billing - any excuse for pizza, right?

ANTONIA

MAMSHA AL SAADIYAT, ANTONIA TRATTORIA AL ZEINA, ANTONIA CHIC THE GALLERIA MALL

Having been a firm favourite on Saadiyat’s beachfront for some time, the recent addition of a Zeina branch and the very funky Antonia Chic, has been a cause for celebration amongst Antonia’s plentiful fans. Offering Italian food done right, their venues are always bustling and the knowledgeable staff make you feel right at home with their warmth.

Pizza containing 50 year old proprietary dough? - yes please! We love tartufo e funghi - truffle sauce, wild mushroom, scamorza cheese - and their pancetta e patate with smoked bacon, potato, mozzarella, scamorza cheese - even the potato-on-pizza sceptics rate this one.

Enjoy an aperitivo and a slice on the terraces while the weather is good. We love it's authenticity and commitment to customer experience and will always go back for a second slice!

SOLE

CONRAD ABU DHABI ETIHAD TOWERS

Can we tempt you with woodfired pizza delivered straight from the tiled, flame-filled oven to your table? Complete with that crispy crust with just the right amount of char (you know the type!), pizza at Sole is hard to pass up. Enjoy favourites like piazza plebiscito topped with 6-hour beef cheeks, fuorigrotta - their baked or fried calzone pizza - and even vomero, a sweet calzone stuffed with Nutella, berries and white chocolate sauce.

You can watch the pizzas being deftly paddled in and out of the flames as you sip on a spritz or some well-chosen vino, hoping the next one to emerge is headed your way. Best of all, the warmth of the team and their tummy-filling kids menu means the little pizza fans are welcome too!

MARMELLATA

SOUQ AL MINA

At 5.15PM on a Wednesday, the smell of freshly baked pizza is already thick in the air at Souq Al Mina: cue immediate stomach grumbling from any passersby who haven’t come specifically to nab a table at Marmellata (and honestly, they’re few and far between)!

This cult favourite is almost always packed, every indoor table is often taken and the smiling staff ferry pizza to their smiling patrons. With a rotating pizza menu, delectable stuffed focaccia, and some sweet treats that could be straight from nonna’s kitchen, turn up and dig in. No reservations? No worries - with the weather playing ball, you can nab a seat outside and watch the sunset.

Open: Wednesday - Sunday 5pm - 8pm

PIZZA DI ROCCO

BOTH SALAM STREET AND ETIHAD PLAZA FOR DINE IN

We all know and love Pizza di Rocco for their freshly delivered boxes of happiness, ahem, pizza that stream across the city every night via motorbike, but don’t write them off as a dine-in location too!

If you fancy a relaxed evening out, park yourself in close proximity to the oven for maximum freshness, and the smell of cooking pizza intensify those hunger pangs while you wait. We have a regular debate about our favourites, but honourable mentions go to BBQ brisket, burrata and chicken tikka with homemade mango chutney. They do a great range of vegan pizzas and tons of vegetarian options too - there really is something for everyone.

ONE TO WATCH ...

Craft by Side Hustle sports the most massive pizza in town! This beauty is either to be shared by lustful pizza lovers or downed by the one guy or gal who's up for a challenge!

LOCALINO

AL RAHA BEACH BOULEVARD

This canalside gem is a great new pizza hangout for those in that burgeoning area. In just a few short months, Localino has made its reputation for excellent, interesting pizzas and outstanding service.

Ordered by the slice or half tray, there are several varieties to choose from. We love the Via Calabria (AED28/78) – be warned, the spicy nduja sausage gives quite a kick, as does Feel The Heat (AED28/78), generously topped with salami, sausage, and chilli. For those who prefer a little less spice, the pecorino, black pepper, and rocket combo of The One (AED26/68) is fresh tasting and feels sort of healthy! Whichever you choose, you'll be impressed with the dough and the right ratio of topping ... a true Raha win/win!
