Is This Abu Dhabi's Most Romantic Restaurant?

There are plenty of great eateries in Abu Dhabi, but there are some very strong reasons why Sontaya has long been considered Abu Dhabi’s most romantic restaurant, and in its new iteration, excels on many levels. 

The idyllic location, thoughtful interiors, and overwater dining at the newly reopened Sontaya at St Regis Saadiyat ticks all the romance boxes. Nab one of the overwater tables and you’ll win hearts in an instant, but there are plenty of cosy corners with gorgeous views that make the dining experience at Sontaya wonderful.

This is a meal you will want to linger over. Start with Chinese money bags and exceptionally fresh summer rolls, the perfect entrees before the beautifully presented dim sum arrives. The chicken gyoza is tasty, but it’s the amazing mushroom-shaped bao stuffed with a rich truffle and wild mushroom filling that steals the show

Tom Yum soup lovers will enjoy the richness of this spicy soup laden with tender shrimp, while the yuzu-marinated black cod is some of the best we have had and may be even better than Zuma’s, which is considered the Abu Dhabi OG! It’s deliciously flaky with a moreish sticky miso glaze - entirely too hard to put down!

The range of signature curries will keep everyone happy - we prefer the green curry, which is fragrant and light with a slight kick, while the pad Thai would suit those who prefer their noodles on the milder side. The mapo tofu is a great option (among many) for vegetarians.

The duo of desserts is a great way to sample some favourites on the menu - we particularly enjoy the fried banana wraps, served with salted caramel ice cream and vanilla custard. 

We are spoiled for choice with great views in Abu Dhabi, but Sontaya manages to capture the beauty of the surroundings, setting the scene for those romantic overtures - whether they be date nights, anniversary dinners, or, dare we say it, proposals!
