I find Jose by Pizarro more and more interesting every time I go, and every time I go I decide I don't eat enough of this incredible Spanish food and really could do with going more. I now have quite the stable of go-to dishes there ... and there are so many good ones.
Let's start with the patatas bravas, which are like no others I've ever had anywhere else ever. These aren't just some potatoes whacked in the oil, fried up and doused with bravas sauce, these bouji pieces of heaven are carefully layered, baked and baked again till they're crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, ready for dipping into the sauce - an absolute triumph of a dish.
The tapas ride continues with coca de racapte, crunchy house-baked flat bread, with roasted red pepper, a touch of aubergine and a very plump sardine on top - the textures in this dish were on point and honestly, you don't need to be a fan of salty fish to enjoy this.
We thought the paella was excellent, with slivers of duck delicately placed on top. The depths of flavour in this dish were incredible, made even better by being able to scrape the crisped up bits of rice from the bottom of the pan - is this not the best bit in a paella?!
Drinks are thoughtful and tasty: sangria with Spanish wine and beer making the menu good.
The space is intimate and the resident singer's soulful voice makes this one of Abu Dhabi's best restaurants. It's good both for a date night or a catch-up with friends or just a drink at the bar and is one of the few restaurants in Abu Dhabi that capture the vibes effortlessly - a rare find!
