SATURDAY BRUNCH AT BROADWAY EMIRATES PALACE

Broadway is one of the great finds of the year for us, mostly because I expected it to be something very different from what it actually is, and exceeded expectations on every level.

If you haven’t been, the Saturday brunch is a great place to start what will undoubtedly be your Broadway love affair.

You get into it immediately. Feeling suitably welcomed by genuinely nice and efficient staff, we get to work on a couple of cocktails and mocktails (the happy Holi and apple not martini being the faves of the mocks along with a banging virgin Mary, while the cocktail favourites were the exceptional old fashioned and the espresso martini to finish) and started the feet tapping to the tunes of the outstanding duo.

The opening numbers are for sharing and included an amazing garden salad - this is a misnomer; there's nothing 'or garden' about it, it's absolutely delicious (high praise from a salad avoider!), a cauliflower dish that’s delectable and beautiful Fin de Claire oysters.

There's an excellent pate de foie gras with superb house made bread, as well as octopus, thinly sliced, with luscious tomatoes, a tuile of toasted bread and finished with a smoky pepper dressing - superb.

But, these are overshadowed by the incredible beef tartare with squidges of a creamy, delicate mustard butter. This was my dish of the day; not much use for vegetarians but they won’t go hungry!

And speaking of vegetarian dishes, choosing the porcini agnolotti main is a win - it's absolutely excellent; the agnolotti themselves stuffed to plumpness with a delicious, delicate porcini cream, not too rich but ever-so-good.

The seabream with a glorious pesto pour and the quality striploin, cooked to perfection are also great options, as was the poussin. There really is something for everyone - unless you're anti-sharing, get a different dish each and dip in!

And the vibes? This is a foodie brunch, one for people who love savouring great food and excellent drinks in the most comfortable of surroundings. The musicians rev up as the day wears on and there’s huge potential for dancing.

There’s nowhere quite like Broadway in Abu Dhabi and we consider this a Saturday afternoon winner. If you fancy a Sunday option, check out the Sunday Roast at Broadway, another excellent event!
